We were included as part of their campaign with NHS Blood and Transplant ‘Give a Pint, Save a Life’ to recruit Daily Mirror blood donor heroes as 450 new donors are needed every day to help meet current demands and the needs of patients.
The article highlighted the lifesaving difference that blood on board can make to patients across the UK, featuring a case study from Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance. In 2021 alone over 500 patients received emergency transfusions.
Our CEO Simmy Akhtar was also featured, thanking the thousands of people who donate blood, helping air ambulance crews across the UK carry blood on board to help those patients urgently in need in local communities.
Simmy says:
Many of the UK’s air ambulances carry blood on board. in 2021, more than 500 people needed emergency lifesaving blood transfusions from an air ambulance critical care team at the scene. Anyone, anywhere in the UK can need the specialist lifesaving skills of an air ambulance. And we would like to extend our grateful thanks to the thousands of people who have donated blood, including throughout the pandemic. This has helped air ambulance crews across the UK use blood products to help patients urgently in need in local communities.
