Works start on new Norwich base to allow air ambulance to fly 24/7

East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) staff, patients, supporters and volunteers all mucked in with spades on Friday 24 January to mark the start of the building works for the eagerly anticipated 24/7 EAAA Norwich base. Once completed, the new home of EAAA will allow the charity to operate its life-saving helicopter 24 hours a day from Norwich Airport, becoming the first air ambulance in the East of England to fly 24/7.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance were the proud winners of the ‘Campaign of the Year’ award at the Air Ambulance Awards of Excellence for the Haynes Air Ambulance Manual, a joint project with Haynes Publishing benefiting Air Ambulances UK.

Onboard each lifesaving mission is a crew consisting of a highly-skilled pilot and Critical Care Team, typically made up of specialist Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) doctors and paramedics, ready to attend to critically injured or ill patients at the scene of the emergency with their advanced medical expertise. Essentially, bringing the hospital to the patient when every second counts towards survival.

The pilot and Critical Care Team are required to wear a bespoke flight suit for their own safety and the safety of the patients they attend to.
