This is an exciting opportunity to contribute strategically to a charity dedicated to saving more lives across the UK.
About us
Air Ambulances UK is the independent national charity supporting the lifesaving work of the UK’s Air Ambulance charities, enabling them to save even more lives every day. Air ambulance crews bring the Emergency Department to patients who have suffered a life threatening or life changing trauma or medical emergency; providing advanced critical care to save lives.
Context and the role
Our Board of Trustees consists of up to five independent Trustees and four Trustees who are elected by our air ambulance charity members. We are currently recruiting for an independent Trustee to be our new Chair of the Board, who will then lead the recruitment of a permanent CEO.
The Interim CEO will have around four direct reports, with AAUK employing people across fundraising, communications, finance, member coordinator and public affairs. All staff are remote, there is no office base.
The majority of the UK’s air ambulance charities are formal members of AAUK, but we would like to see this number increase. We want to take some time to really listen to and engage with member and non-member organisations, to understand what they want from their national charity over the next five to ten years, to consider how we can best deliver this, and to refresh our organisational strategy.
As part of this, we expect the Interim CEO to carry out a governance review, including looking at the agreements that AAUK has or should have with its members. We do not anticipate that the Interim CEO will need to undertake new projects or change programmes, aside from the key piece of work described above, but will need to provide stable and clear management to the rest of the team.
What we are seeking
You will come with significant leadership experience gained in a national UK non-profit organisation and must have experience of working in or with membership organisations. We are seeking someone who has consultation, communication and engagement as their highest priority. You will understand the relationship between AAUK and air ambulance charities, and how we can best work together in the future.
You will need to be someone who can quickly gain the trust of both the staff team and air ambulance charities, demonstrating that you listen, understand, take action or make appropriate recommendations to the Board. Ultimately, you are someone who can think strategically, whilst not losing focus on people, and help us develop a long term plan for the charity.
Closing date: By 9am, Monday 25th November 2024
